Hello friends:For the colleagues that enlisted for this tutorial... and for all of you, here we are... This is the project for this tutorial, so be prepared... We are going to start in few hours from now See you all !!
Posted by: ragde Aug 5 2006, 02:37 AM
Let's begin...! Now, create a Plane parallel to the Top Plane at 250mm from it. And draw the next sketch... Now, select the Front Plane and draw this...
Posted by: ragde Aug 5 2006, 02:55 AM
Posted by: ragde Aug 5 2006, 03:43 AM
Now we have the Sketch7. Let's fully define this sketch... Probably your asking why we did not "Surface extrude" the Skecth1 instead of making a Loft. Yes, it is more simple, but it is a good idea to now how to copy Skecthes and reuse them..
Posted by: ragde Aug 5 2006, 04:15 AM
Knit the two Lofts... Now we will create a plane in an angle, but first we must create an auxiliary Axis... Well guys, here is a little late... I am going to sleep... See you tomorrow!
Posted by: ragde Aug 5 2006, 09:14 PM
Ok guys, let's continue... Now the next skecth...
Posted by: ragde Aug 5 2006, 09:35 PM
 Well done!

Well guys, we will continue later... See you around... and GOOD MODELLING !
Posted by: bowlofnoodle Aug 6 2006, 02:33 AM
Great work! Nice tip on creating the handle. Keep them bottles coming.
Posted by: ragde Aug 6 2006, 02:23 PM
Thanks Bowlofnoodle ! Let's continue...
Now, use Planar Surfaces to close the Top and the Bottom of the bottle. Then, Knit all surfaces and convert into a Solid.
Posted by: ragde Aug 6 2006, 02:37 PM
Now give it a 12mm radius at the bottom of the bottle
Posted by: ragde Aug 6 2006, 02:56 PM
Sometimes you have to build your own fillets...

This is great Thanks, I dont have SW but I'm taking this into Rhino I let you know how it comes out.. With Rhino, even working with Pro's we have a tendency to forget about plans and plans cut.. this is a great reminder!

Thanks Perfectude.
We will be waiting for you post..

hi guys ,
i am new to this forum.... and wonderfull things are going here. i will be keep watching and adding my contribution here. my job involves mainly bottle design ( PET - bottles mostly) . thanks ya
see you soon

Welcome Raja: Nice to have somebody that works with bottles. Perhaps we can see some of your works.
I am going to put a new link to the Eaton's bottle in the old topic of the bottles (Bottle Handles Need Help).

One Thing: Clear the option of merging solids, because we are creating independent solids in this scene...
Posted by: ragde Aug 23 2006, 02:19 AM
Remember not to merge the solids, we are in a multibody environment
Posted by: ragde Aug 23 2006, 02:30 AM
Now we are going to the DECALS....In Photoshop I made this label for the bottle... Just click on "Click to enlarge". Another window will be open with the image in its full size. Then Copy that image to the Clipboard (Alt + Print Screen) Edit it in a Picture editing software (Photoshop, ACDsee, etc). Crop the image to the borders and convert it into a JPG format (could be BMP, etc). Save it with some philosophycal name (Ja!)...
Posted by: ragde Aug 23 2006, 02:46 AM
The Decal for the glass uses a mask (in order to show only the letters on the glass nicely). This is the label... And this is the mask... The point with the mask is that everything in Black will be transparent, and everything in white will be seen... Now, I don't now if you can use the trick of the (Alt+PrintScreen and editing) that we used before, because the mask has to be a precise copy of the label. Anyway you can try... or make your own mask (in Photshop is very easy using the Magic Wand Tool, fill in black what it is going to be in black, then invert the selection [Shift+Ctrl+I], and then fill in white what it is going to be white). I is a good idea to save the mask with the same name of the label plus "mask" (v.g. 3DMilk for the label and 3Dmilk Mask for the mask).

Of course, you can improve a lot this rendering by adding some spot lights, adding an image background, changing rendering options (more reflections and refractions etc) and so for, but for the purpose of this tutorial I think is ok like that.
Posted by: ragde Aug 27 2006, 08:22 PM
And now this last "trick"... If you are interested in printing or downloading this Tutorial... Bye and... GOOD MODELING !!
Posted by: Zampik Aug 28 2006, 01:22 AM
I'm not using Solid W(maybe some time I will learn it ) .....but....can't say anythink about your labels...hehe..... have to say LOL...very good man

awsome tutorial, next semester I have a solidworks class, so I can't wait untill I learn the basics to try this tutorial. I'm a rhino user, and everytime I try solidworks I get lost Now I'm too busy with school, so I guess I'll just wait for that class

Thanks Zampik and Soljaraq.

i am working on the tutorial right now, but i am a bit stuck in the decal bit. I use solidworks 2005, and i can't seem to get your decal screen. the only place i can enter a decall is in photoworks. So i only see a small screen which displays the deployed decal, but i cannot seem to move it with the arrow like you described it. How did you do it? I'll post a pic of whit i've made of it later today
Posted by: parel Sep 24 2006, 01:06 PM
The Decal editor is only available in 2006 as far as I know.
Posted by: ragde Sep 24 2006, 06:35 PM
That's correct: 2005 does not allows to manipulate the decal directly.
But, still, you can move the decal using the Horizontal & Vertical offset. (as well as the turns)
Good Luck !

ragdeneed some advice. i've tried to make this bottle, main body is filleted solid. but i can't attach handle smoothly. tried to do this also with fillets. bad result. can you point the way for me how to do it with surfaces? i've read all your tutorials, but cant imagine the boundaries of the handle fillet surface. file is placed at http://rapidshare.de/files/36942766/can9.SLDPRT.html thank you in advance! Attached image(s)
Posted by: ragde Oct 17 2006, 12:19 PM
Dear Ayama: I saw your file and found that is very good, Probably you can improve a little changing the fillet of the handle near the neck of the bottle (the mouth of it). Where do you think is not good your handle?
Anyway, some parts of it can be improved remaking those with surfaces.

Great tutorial!
If I understood correctly, the spline on surface you made on post #8 was a free spline, right?! Or does it have any kind of specific measures?
McGreg
Posted by: ragde Oct 18 2006, 12:51 AM
Dear McGreg: You are correct, the spline there is a "free" one. Just follow a nice shape. But if you need some kind of precision, then you can use one or two 2D sketches in the background as guide

Hi! I've been doing some experimentation myself, and came up with this! The problem is that some of the feature commands are not available! For example, this would be the stage where I would "dome" the bottom and afterwards "shell" it! But for some reason I can't... I've tryied reviewing the document, by "try to form a solid" on every knitted surface, but the result was the same. Also, I've made so many things on this part that it's file is already 14Mb! For the same work on your tutorial, the file was about 3Mb. Could you tell me what I could be doing wrong? Thanks McGreg
Posted by: ragde Oct 23 2006, 03:50 PM
Hi McGreg.
I am glad that you are experimenting with the handles and the techniques on the tutorial.
I notice that something is hapening in the top of your bottle (near the mouth of it). It seems like the surface is doing some ripples there. (maybe I am no seeing very well that zone of the picture), but when you loft, you have to take care of the values of the "tangent" (or the default) for the End and Start conditions of the loft. When the value is too big it tends to make some deformation to the surface and sometimes this prevents the model from shelling.
You tell that you knitted the surface into a solid. Then you have to be sure that you got the solid. (remember that open surfaces do not solidify - DOME only works on SOLIDS). Check if you had offset some surfaces that are interfering. Check that the radius of the bottom is continuos.
One final advice: Try to do the model again from the beginning (brand new) to correct a lot of redundant things or other problems.
Just let me know your progress.
Very good Job!! keep doing!
ciao

I restarted everything and I was able to do it right this time! Well... at least the modelling part. The rendering still has a lot of work to do! The next picture is the rendering, and on the second one I just applyied some SW's textures to better differentiate the objects. Ragde, sorry for stealing some of your drawings and ideas, but it was at hand so... Got enough of bottles for now! Gonna try something new! Great tutorial! It enabled me to learn some tricks, but especially how to work with surfaces instead of features! It makes a lot of things easyer! McGreg
Posted by: ragde Oct 28 2006, 01:47 PM
Nice McGreg. Keep practicing... You have now one task pending... to improve your rendering.
Parel has a lot of good advises about rendering, read that and try again.
ciao
